Where is Oney?
John C. McCornack
Oklahoma Bound?
Did you ever hear of a town
For many little tiny towns
Sometimes you discover that
A ghost town often times it
is
But you know, its still part of
history

Found this old farm house
Oney is not on an Oklahoma map
Besides the new Post Office
A post office and a
church
It was a friendly summer day as
M. I. Lusby
Where is Oney?
Oney is much loved and talked about
People on the east side of main street

RICHARD P. ONEY Genealogy
Richard P. (Preston or Presley) Oney and Eliza Jane
Tackett had 12 children. Richard, though he was well liked and respected
by his neighbors, had problems with alcohol and was a gambler. He died as
a result of suicide by drinking carbolic acid in 1916. The town of Oney in
Caddo County, Oklahoma was named for him. It is usually on the map as Albert.
Everything in that town (the school, store, and cafe), except the post office
are called Oney. Because the Post Office is called Albert, that is the way
it is on the map.
Oney
Oh, where is Oney do you
know?
He said to tell his old
hometown
Well, Oney was a happy chap
They uttered never not a word
The townsfolks all respected
him
It was a tiny, tiny town
Above the door says Albert

Joke
WOW -- what a horrible way to die!!!!!!!!!! I thought
you were joking when you asked, "Where is Oney" -- because it was a standard
joke that people would say, "I'm gonna tell you "oney" one more time ...
or "it's oney a little ways down the road." LOL
This was certainly a wonderful story and pleasant
photos. I do enjoy the photos of buildings in the past and often get the
"spirit" feelings of ones who walked and lived in those surroundings. I
sure have some strong feelings here. Thanks for sharing.
Glen W. Terry
He was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma and died at home
on the farm in Caddo County, Oney, Oklahoma.
He served in the Army during World War II and was
a tank driver in the Philippines. At one point he was missing in action and
there is a long story to this. From 1957 until the time of his death, he
was a peanut farmer in Caddo, County -- belonged to the Farmer's Union. He
was an honest man and his word was as good as any contract you could sign.
We love him dearly and not a day goes by that we do think of him.
Someone is watching you!
